Manila, Philippines – The Meralco Bolts take on the Kia Carnival in today’s PBA showdown at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Though the Bolts are already in the quarterfinals, they want to keep the momentum going. A win for the Bolts will keep them away from any complicated scenarios like in a position of tying with other teams. Coach Norman Black told PBA.ph that they have to beat KIA.
“From what I’ve seen, we have to beat KIA,” Black told PBA.ph. “That’s the most important thing right now, more so to get the momentum going into the playoffs.”
Kia will seek to win the game, hoping that they can still sneak into the playoffs. Kia has no control of its destiny in the playoffs but they will be in a full force.
Player coach and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao will be in the sideline for the second time this conference. Pacquiao might be helpful in inspiring his players to play better after losing their last three games.
“We still have a chance to make it to the playoffs. Whatever chance that we have, we’d still work hard for it and grab it,” KIA assistant coach Chito Victolero said.
If KIA beats Meralco, they finish in a tie along with TNT and Ginebra. Meralco will then claim the seventh spot, with the eighth spot going to either KIA or Ginebra, depending on which team has the higher quotient.
Pacquiao, 36, was not present for most of the season-ending Governors’ Cup with a hectic schedule for his highly expected fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr last May. Pacquiao is still recovering from his shoulder injury.
