Florida vs Virginia Scores and Updates: College World Series 2015 Results

The Gators are closer to forcing an elimination game Saturday by opening up a 9-1 lead on Virginia after scoring 5 in the 6th. It’s the fourth time Florida has scored at least four runs in an inning at this year’s College World Series.

 

The Florida Gators will face the Virginia Cavaliers in one of the two College World Series games on Friday at 3:00 PM ET at the TD Ameritrade, Omaha, Nebraska.

Virginia will advance to the College World Series Finals with a win while Florida will force a do-or-die game in a win over the same opponent.

Virginia will start Nathan Kirby (5-2, 2.28 ERA), who hasn’t played since April 17th, when he went out with a strained lat. He has played only for 10 starts before he got injured. Florida will start Logan Shore (10-6, 2.55 ERA).

The Florida Gators will rely on third baseman Josh Tobias who is hitting .362 with five home runs and 45 RBIs and catcher JJ Schwarz (.329 BA, 18 HRs, 73 RBIs). However, Dalton Guthrie is hitting the best with .444 in Omaha.

Shortstop Daniel Pinero is hitting .571 and catcher Matt Thaiss .429 in Omaha, while Thaiss’ average is .423 for the Cavaliers’ seven tournament games.

The Florida Gators have to reproduce runs in order to beat the Cavaliers. Florida got only two hits in the 1-0 loss to Virginia on Monday.
