Philadelphia Eagles NFL Draft 2015 Rumors: Chip Kelly offers big to Bucs but not deep with Titans

One of the biggest stories in Round one of the NFL 2015 Draft was about Chip Kelly’s failure to land Marcus Mariota, who slipped into the hands of the Titans, Oregon quarterback.

Rumors swirled around the free draft mode that Kelly offered everything possible to the Titans to acquire Mariota, however, it is reported that Kelly instead went deep talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to land the No. 1 pick. The Philadelphia Eagles, instead, drafting the 20th pick and not a quarterback named Marcus Mariota.

“It was just a really steep price,” Kelly said of trading up, via “It’s like driving into a nice neighborhood and looking at a house and saying, ‘That’s really nice,’ and then they tell you the price and you turn around and drive away. We didn’t walk in the front door. We didn’t take a look around.”

However, the NfL Network reported that the Eagles were willing to give two first-round picks, a third round pick, Fletcher Cox, linebacker Mychal Kendricks and Sam Bradford to the Titans.

Kelly reiterated that the report was false and that he never talked about players.

“That’s false,” Kelly said. “We never had any conversations about players,” said Kelly, who admitted that he talked to both the Bucs and the Titans. “[The talks] didn’t get very far. The starting price for what it was wasn’t where we were gonna go.

“First conversation we ever had with [the Titans] was [Wednesday]. Then we said we’d talk [Thursday]. They made the right maneuver. If I was in that situation, I would have done the same thing.”

Kelly and the Eagles never offered another package ( three first-round picks or two first round picks and Sam Bradford) to the Titans just to acquire Mariota. It’s just speculations and fiction.

Most importantly, reports that Kelly made a big offer to the Bucs, who picked Jameis Winston as the first overall.

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Eagles offered the following to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the first pick in the draft: the 20th pick in this year’s draft; Philly’s first-round pick in 2016; quarterback Sam Bradford; and another player on the roster.”

There’s a conflicting report about how the Eagles dealt with the Titans and Bucs. While everybody was talking about Kelly’s desire to land Mariota through getting the No. 2 pick, Kelly talked also with the Bucs. Kelly’s intention to grab Mariota was the priority in Round One of the NFL Draft 2015 for the Eagles. Though the Eagles didn’t get what they wanted, they have enough quarterbacks to play and to bring them into the playoffs.
