NFL Draft 2015 picks: Tennessee Titans select QB Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston at No. 1

The speculation is over. The Tennessee Titans picked quarterback Marcus Mariota in the NFL 2015 draft in a surprising manner because other teams were interested to get into No. 2 draft.

Tennessee had to weigh the trade offer from other teams like the Eagles, Browns, Rams and Jets. While the offer significantly increased the attention on Mariota, the Titans have not accepted any of the offers.

Mariota is a mobile quarterback who played for the Oregon Ducks. He is well-knowed for his aggressive passes and runs with the Ducks.

In the 2014 season with the Ducks, Mariota completed 304 passes in 445 attempts for 4454 yards and 42 touchdowns against four interceptions. He won the Heisman Trophy award with his best year with the Ducks.

Jameis Winston was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the No. 1 pick. No surprise about the selection because the Bucs were locked to have Winston even from the beginning of rumors and speculations.

The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t make any surprise this time by selecting DE DANTE FOWLER, Jr. at No. 3. Though many speculations about the Jaguars selecting Amari Cooper, Jacksonville went to what it needs most.

As ESPN Per Se:

The Oregon Ducks star had been coveted by several teams. A league source told’s Paul Kuharsky that the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears were pushing hardest for the pick. A source told ESPN’s Bob Holtzman that the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Rams also had talked with the Titans about the selection.

While Tennessee’s offensive system differs greatly from the one Mariota operated at Oregon, the Titans believe his skills will translate into coach Ken Whisenhunt’s system and that they will adjust for him a bit, creating more offense where he could be on the move.
