New York Jets Rumors: QB Geno Smith to be released if Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty play better?

The New York Jets will continue to find the starting quarterback this offseason. While the Marcus Mariota-Geno Smith trade faded after the NFL draft, rumors will not easily die until the start of the season.

In the 2015 NFL Draft, the Jets were able to pick Bryce Petty in the fourth round, knowing that they needed a quarterback just in case Smith will not be consistent. As per CBSSports draft prospects, Petty was fourth of the quarterbacks but he was drafted third.

Petty, Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick will battle for the starting quarterback position this offseason. Truly, the Jets would love to have a quarterback that is consistent enough to win games.

“It’s all about the person,” he said, via ESPN.com. “My desire is to be the best, regardless of what system I’m in. What I was asked to do in college was different, but it’s not because I couldn’t do a pro-style offense or a West Coast offense or whatever you want to call it. That’s what I was asked to do, so I did it. My job is to prove to the 31 other teams what they’re missing out on. … My confidence is never shaken.”

There will be a tight competition among the three quarterbacks. It is unlikely that Smith will just give it away. Smith wants to prove that he remains to be reliable and he will bring forth the best of his games this season.

This upcoming NFL season, the Jets have the defense to battle the offense of the Patriots. The offense would surely be the problem. Coach Todd Bowles knows exactly what to do for the Jets to be competitive this season, and a quarterback change might be needed.

“You have to expect anything, but going out there I believe this is my team,” Smith said, through the New York Postbefore the draft. “I go out there and I work hard and try to lead the guys the best way that I can. I’m not going to sit here and talk about it. I want to lead this team the right way and I want to continue to get better as a player. There’s always other guys. That’s the nature of the business. There’s always going to be competition. I’ve always welcomed it and I still do.”
