NY Rangers vs Lightning Game 7 final score, results and recap: Lightning book into Stanley Cup Finals

The Tampa Bay Lightning booked themselves into the Stanley Cup Finals after beating the New York Rangers, 2-0, on Friday night in the do-or-die seventh games at Madison Square Garden.

Ben Bishop bounced back from being overwhelmed by the Rangers in Game 6, allowing five goals. Bishop shut down the offense of the Rangers with his 22 saves, handing his counterpart Henrik Lundqvist his first ever Game 7 loss. After scoreless two periods, the Lightning drew the first blood through Alex Killorn’s goal and Ondrej Palt secured the victory with another goal.

The Lightning will meet either Chicago or Anaheim in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Ducks will play the Blackhawks on Saturday night in the Western Conference Finals Game 7.

This is the end of the road for the Rangers. Though Lundqvist displayed his best with 23 saves and 92.0 saving percentage, he needed help. Lundqvist had no help at all from the offense of the Rangers.

The NY Rangers envisioned themselves to be in this position, playing Game 7 at home. The Rangers have Rick Nash, a 42-goal scorer that set NHL record, and goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who is at his best in Game 7s.

It’s shocking to note that Lundqvist has won his last six Game 7s, posting a 0.81 goals against average, a .973 save percentage and one shutout. The six consecutive Game 7 wins are an NHL record and his Game 7 wins are tied with Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy for the most in NHL history.

”I don’t know if I’m comfortable,” Lundqvist said . ” I just try to go out and do my job. You’re definitely nervous, but it comes down to teamwork. I feel comfortable when we’re in the right place, when we’re doing good things out there. I feel like it’s easier for me to focus on my game, and that’s a big part of winning these games, too. You focus on the team concept and the things that brought you to this moment.”

Lundqvist was responsible in denying 36 shots of the Lightning in Game 6. He is the key for the Rangers to be back in the Stanley Cup Finals.

On the post season, Derick Brassard leads in points and goals with 16 and nine respectively for the NY Rangers. Nash leads in assists with six while he also has five goals. Derek Stapan has contributed 12 points (five points and seven assists).
