Kevin Love Injury update: GM David Griffin says Love is “highly unlikely” to return

LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers have to accept what happened to Kevin Love, will not play for the remainder of the season, who dislocated his shoulder. GM David Griffin says on Tuesday, it is “highly unlikely” that Love returns.

“The damage to his shoulder is extensive,” Griffin said of Love. “This is not a situation where we are expecting that he will be available for any of (the rest of the postseason), and we are in the process of gathering information and seeing what the exact right next steps are, and every option is on the table. Surgery is an option as well, if necessary. We’re going to continue to look at that, but I don’t want there to be any expectation on Kevin that he’ll be back.”

“I think it would be a real surprise if he were able to participate in the postseason,” Griffin said. “I’ve still got a sliver of hope very late, but highly unlikely.”

Kevin Love’s dislocated shoulder injury is one of the biggest stories in the NBA Playoffs. Love’s role in Cleveland is critically important in the postseason, it will break or make the Cavs chase of a title.

Love is the third option of the Cavaliers offense after LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. He helps the Cavaliers in spreading the floor, giving ways for James and Irving to drive to the basket, without a shotblocker mostly guarding Love outside.

Love dislocated his left shoulder as whe was tangled up with Boston’s Kelly Olynyk in Sunday’s Game 4 win. Love accused Olynyk of being intentional to hurt him.

In Dave McMenamin twitter account, it stated:

Kevin Love: “I thought it was a bush-league play … I have no doubt in my mind that he did it on purpose”

Kevin Love added : “That’s just not a basketball play … The league will take a look at it and it better be swift and just”

Meawhile, Olynyk does not accept the perception of Love. Olynyk told Boston Herald on Sunday:

“That’s ridiculous,” Olynyk told the Herald last night. “I would never intentionally hurt Kevin or anyone else. He locked my arm up, I locked up his as we were fighting for a loose ball. You lock up arms all the time in this league.”

“I wish him a very speedy recovery, and I hope he can come back to help his team in the playoffs,” Olynyk said.

“I was definitely surprised (by what Love said),” he said. “In basketball, I don’t think anyone is trying to hurt anyone. For (Love), it’s very unfortunate. I know they’re trying to make a run right now.”

Star LeBron James supported Love’s thinking about being intentional on Olynyk’s action. James thought that the action was not like a basketball play.

“I’ve seen the replay and it didn’t look like a basketball play,” LeBron James said. “I’ve seen a lot of tie-ups in my day and that tie-up was a little different. We want to play the game of basketball the right way. You want to be physical but you never want the game to get out of hand where you have injuries.”

According to report, Kevin Love will miss two weeks, pending on the second opinion that he is seeking in the coming days. Love is a free agent after this season and he is one of the most sought basketball player in the free agency.

For now, the Cavaliers hope that he would recover immediately so that he would be fit to play in the Eastern Conference Finals, if the Cavaliers would travel that far.
