UAB stuns Iowa State, 60-59, in March Madness

The No. 14 UAB Blazers pulled off the first big upset the the NCAA Tournament by beating the Big 12 Champions No. 3 Iowa State Cyclones, 60-59, on Thursday.

Robert Brown scored 21 points to defy the defense of the Cyclones and William Lee added 14 points and 12 rebounds to significantly help the Blazers.

UAB controlled the pace of the game since the tip-off. UAB was 9 of 11 from the free throw line while Iowa State made 5 of 7 only. UAB outrebounded the Cyclones 51-34 through the leadership of Lee.

Guard Monte Morris led the Cyclones with 15 points, four assists and four rebounds but the four turnovers had hurt the team. Jameel McKay added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Cyclones.

The Blazers will advance to the Round of 32 teams.
