Mayweather vs Pacquiao: Boxers meet again privately after the Bucks-Heat game

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have shown to the world about their interest of making the fight possible as they meet for more than an hour after short public discussion during halftime at the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks game in Miami.

According to report on ESPN, the boxers met inside Pacquiao’s hotel suite and “it was very pleasant and very encouraging, and we give Floyd credit for coming over,” Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz, who was present at the meeting.

“That’s the first time they ever sat eye to eye. I’ve met Floyd many times, but he and Manny had never had a chance to meet. They talked at halftime, but this was a longer, more serious meeting. You could tell by their body language that this was very positive. It was for a good hour or more.

“It was a business meeting, but it wasn’t a tense business meeting. I think that’s because they both have mutual respect for each other. We’ll determine what will happen over the next couple of days.”

The boxing fans have always desire to see this mega fight to push through. Millions around the world are longing for a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

Pacquiao has been in Miami as one of the judges of the recently concluded Miss Universe and he is also a friend of Miami coach Erik Spoelstra while Mayweather is a Miami fan.

The Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight will be the richest fight in boxing history and the two camps are still in the process of negotiation.

One of the biggest hurdles would be that Time Warner/HBO, which has a contract with Pacquiao, and CBS/Showtime, which has Mayweather under contract, need to hammer out terms for a joint pay-per-view telecast. Showtime and HBO did a partnership in 2002 fight between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson.

Last week, Pacquiao put a January 31 deadline on Floyd Mayweather to sign the contract. Mayweather responded that Pacquiao is not the boss of Top Rank Promotion but Bob Arum.

According to reports, the fight has the potential to reach $300 million including the Pay-Per-View, making this the biggest boxing fight in the history.

Koncz said Pacquiao and Mayweather also discussed other issues but that the broadcasting items were “the majority of the discussion. Floyd said, ‘I want the fight to happen,’ and Manny said he does, too. If the fighters both want the fight to happen, who can stop it? They both said they want it to happen, and we’re still looking to make it happen on May 2, according to ESPN.

Is this the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight going to happen?
